Forbidden Twin is an “Appalachian Miscellany,” edited by Andrew Feight and Janet Feight, two local residents who teach in the Digital Appalachian Studies Program at Shawnee State University in nearby Portsmouth, Ohio.
Focusing on the communities of Upper and Lower Twin Creeks and the nearby Village of Buena Vista in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio, this digital humanities project documents and explores the history, literature, and media coverage of a place that became known in the 1920s as “Forbidden Twin” and is today part of the Shawnee State Forest. Wilmer G. Mason, writing for the Cincinnati Enquirer first recorded the phrase in his feature article from February 1926, “The Coopers of Twin Creek.”
Forbidden Twin is a work in progress; its table of contents will only grow with time.

The editors of Forbidden Twin welcome submissions of historical photographs and other artifacts, along with original creative works — memoirs, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, music, and other audio and video recordings — that deal with the Twin Creek region and document its connections to the larger story of Appalachia.
